Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Description of Site:

Describe in detail what the site does, what service(s) it provides, and how it does so. In addition, cover the following items in your description in narrative form.
Wordle is a free Web 2.0 tool that allows users to generate word clouds from text that the user provides. The word clouds may be edited with various fonts, colors and themes. The site doesn't have ads and it allows the user to share finished work as well as browse through other shared work from past users. It does however require that the java script version be updated and correct for use. Wordle is appropriate for use in schools and can be used broadly from elementary through secondary grades.

Educational Uses of Site

Wordle could be used as a culminating activity for a specific unit or theme of study. Students could work collaborative to brainstorm words associated with the lesson and concept. Even though the students may have the same words, wordle allows for creativity of each student.

Review of Site

I think that the site is very user friendly and easy to navigate, especially with students. I usually have the students use a word document to type each word correctly and just copy and paste when they are ready. This prevents spelling errors and retyping of deleted lists on the Wordle website.
